Upcoming Events
United Methodist will Shelter February 15th, 16th and 17th. Do you have time to share? In 2012, United Methodist, New City, continues to support the Helping Hands Safe Haven program. In December and January approximately 20 guests visited United Methodist and were served a hot meal in the evening, used the Fellowship Hall for a good night's rest, and then the guests were given a bag lunch before leaving for the day. Prayerfully consider this volunteer opportunity.
The next shelter date for United Methodist is February 15th, 16th and 17th. United Methodist is very fortunate to have two volunteer groups that prepare meals, serve and clean up every Thursday and Friday that we shelter. This February and March, United Methodist is welcoming volunteers from Mercedes Benz of Nanuet to cook, clean up and serve meals to our homeless guests.
Volunteers are still needed for chaperoning. Chaperones have the opportunity to serve in two different time slots: 9:30 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. Of course, for those that can Chaperone from 9:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. the next day, that time slot is always available. Chaperoning requires no special skills, just time! We generally have at least two chaperones, but prefer to have three.
Prayerfully consider a role with the United Methodist Shelter Program, so that our church can once again provide a warm meal and covered shelter to those in need and continue to support Helping Hands Safe Haven Program. - Karen K. Rhodes
Christian Outreach Project (COP) is an empowering, joyful, friendship-making, work-filled, world- improving, life-changing, learnng experience unlike anything you have yet been a part of. I believe if you try it once, you'll want to go as many times as you can. Help someone in financial need finally have a roof that doesn't leak, a handicap ramp to be free from the confines of the house, a freshly painted attractive home, or some other home improvement...but more than that, help someone feel hope. In the process, you will learn new skills and gain self-confidence.COP will be earlier this coming summer, so maybe more people will be able to go. It will be from Sunday June 24th (We leave after being commissioned in the church service) until we return early in the afternoon of Saturday June 30th.
Open to teens completing 9th through 12th grade and adults with or without carpentry expeerience. Your friends are welcome to come with you if we can get enough adult volunteers and we sign up soon enough that there is room for all of us on the teams. It will cost $375 per person, but we can do fund raisers, and those in special need can request a partial scholarship from our congregation (I'll ask for you.)
I would appreciate hearing from you whether or not you are able to attend. Thanks!
